Description

1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 150/649OP Walter Johnson (Portrait) PSA NM 7 - The Highest Graded 649 Overprint! NOTE" The tobacco brand in the title has been corrected to "Sweet Caporal."

This timeless, elegant portrait of the "Big-Train" is one of the most widely recognized and admired of all of the T206s portraits and is unmistakably a product of Carl Horner's talents. Every tobacco enthusiast desires this card and for good reason. Few will be able to claim one of such quality. The front boasts four high end corners, rich colors, a bight white border of uneven thickness, this being the "worst" criticism one can find. The reverse boasts a fresh looking impression of the "Piedmont - 150 Subjects" design with a factory 649 overprint caption.

Graded PSA NM 7. His portrait remains blemish-free and perfectly centered. The surrounding border shows faint ghosting seen only under a loupe. Currently, there are just under 1,000 Walter Johnson T206 "Portrait" cards that have passed the eye of PSA graders. A little under 25% of them are confirmed with the "Sweet Caporal" brand. Just thirty-six are confirmed with the scarce factory 649 overprint treatment. This is the highest graded example from that elusive population!
