Description

1976 Sparky Lyle New York Yankees Game Worn Pants. Sparky Lyle, who pitched sixteen years in the majors solely in relief and who won the 1977 American League Cy Young Award (the first reliever to do so in the American League), was one of the best-known relievers of his era. He consistently was among the league leaders in saves and his interactions with other Yankee players and management were well-publicized. Some of these interactions were famously chronicled in his book, The Bronx Zoo. The pinstriped pants exhibit strong season-long wear with no apparent alterations, and feature "Wilson [size] 36" label at interior waistband beside an embroidered swatch stating "Lyle 28 76 1 25." Pants were later worn by Steve Taylor with the Tacoma Yankees in 1978. His last name appears in black marker at interior waistband.
