Description

1940's Philadelphia Stars Team Photograph with Oscar Charleston. Marvelous team shot of the Philadelphia Stars of the Negro National League is punctuated by the appearance of coach Oscar Charleston, standing at the right shoulder of Hilda Bolden Shorter, the daughter of team owner Ed Bolden who assumed ownership of the team upon her father's death. Charleston is considered one of the greatest talents ever produced by segregated ball, and was ranked number sixty-seven on The Sporting News' list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players. The "Type 1" original photo measures 8x10" in size, and presents without any flaws of note.
