Description

1964 Cleveland Browns Game Worn Sidelines Jacket. Over four decades of Championship drought for the fiercely loyal fans of the Cleveland Browns leave them still clinging to the memory of the magical '64 squad that ranks as one of the finest ever to suit up in an NFL uniform. We were fortunate enough to meet a gentleman named Ed Bettridge at the Cleveland National Sports Collectors Convention, whose single season of service to professional football just happened to be as a member of this storied team. Here we present the only game used artifact still in his possession, a fantastic letterman-style sideline jacket worn during breaks in the action alongside legends like Jim Brown, Paul Warfield and Leroy Kelly. The design is simple and classic, with a brown wool body and elasticized cuffs and collar in brown, orange and white striping. "Browns" is spelled across the shoulders in white tackle twill block lettering. The proper "King O'Shea" label is affixed inside the collar, with local Cleveland sporting goods manufacturer "Blepp-Coombs" providing interior body tagging. Some moderate wear to the elasticized cuffs does nothing to detract from the strong visual appeal, and absolutely nothing to minimize the historical importance of one of the very few 1964 Browns game worn uniform pieces to find its way to the auction block. A notarized letter from Mr. Bettridge attesting to the provenance of this jacket is included. LOA from Lou Lampson.
