Description
1940 Charlie Gehringer Presentational Desk Set. The eventual American League Championship Detroit Tigers all pitched in to provide their Hall of Fame teammate with this striking birthday gift, which held a place of honor on Gehringer's desk for years following its presentation. Commanding the piece is a golden snarling tiger, which stands atop a heavy marble base affixed with a plaque reading, "To Charles Gehringer From His Team Mates, 5-11-40." The original pens sprout from the base as well, and bear the legend's teeth marks at the base of each. Condition is impeccable, with no apparent damage to the figure or base, though the pens are no longer functional. A visually arresting and elegant piece for the sophisticated collector, with special vintage for fans of both the Tigers and Gehringer specifically. Approximate dimensions 5x12x8".Auction Info
