Description

1958 Ted Williams Game Used Bat. "I hope somebody hits .400 soon," the famously irritable Williams once said. "Then people can start pestering that guy with questions about the last guy to hit .400." Well, the Kid didn't live to see that day, nor should any of us expect to see it either. The tool of Williams' artistry is presented here for the collector concentrating on the hobby's most fundamental pieces, a signature model Hillerich & Bradsby O1 ordered by the Boston Red Sox in the late years of its star slugger's career. Williams favored the O1 model between 1940 and 1947, and the length and weight of thirty-five inches and thirty-three and a half ounces match his preferred specifications, though we cannot state definitively, due to lack of provenance and identifiable player use characteristics, that the bat was indeed used by Williams himself. Outstanding use is evident, however, with many ball marks and stitch impressions on right, left and back barrel, along with spike marks at the front barrel. Graded GU5. LOA from Taube & Malta.
