1978 Ali vs. Spinks Full Tickets Lot of 2. Avenging a split decision six months earlier that stripped him of his Heavyweight Championship belt, Ali regained his status as "The Greatest" at New Orleans' Superdome on September 15, 1978. With this victory, Ali became the only heavyweight to earn the title three times, though it would be his last victory before a sad fall from grace against Holmes and Berbick.
