Description

Rare January 13, 1931 Philadelphia Quakers Vs. Canadiens Program. No one can question that hockey programs from the early 1930's are scarce. This is an "Official Magazine Program" from the January 13, 1931 game between the Philadelphia Quakers (owned by boxing legend Benny Leonard) and the Montreal Canadiens. The Philadelphia Quakers were a one and done National Hockey League (NHL) franchise who were previously known as the Pittsburgh Pirates (1925-30). The team didn't exactly set the hockey world on fire in 1931 as they finished with a 4-36-12 record. Material from this season has every reason to be extremely rare. A first year franchise with a losing record of forgettable games certainly meant the few programs sold were easily discarded. The result today are very few survivors exist. The offered copy has a center fold line and some other light creasing. Inside are ads, Quakers season schedule, pictures of players, hockey rules and team and a 1-page article about Benny Leonard and an introduction in his words. A rare piece from an obscure hockey franchise.
