Description

1977 Super Bowl XI Game Used Football. On January 9, 1977, the Oakland Raiders won their first Super Bowl, crushing the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 at the Rose Bowl. It was a period of triumph for Al Davis' club. "Just Win, Baby" was the battle cry as the Raiders' dominance would produce two more Super Bowl Championships and six AFC Championship appearances over a ten year span.

On the sidelines as he was for virtually every game the Raiders' played from 1960-1994, was head trainer, George Anderson. Anderson saved a game-used ball from all major Raiders' victories during his tenure with the club, and this one stands head and shoulders above all as a testament to the first Super Bowl win. The ball has the NFL Pete Rozelle stamping, has the score painted on the side panel with the inscription "World Champions", his initials "GA", and Anderson also affixed the official Super Bowl patch given to all Raiders players and field staff. The ball shows ample game wear and comes with photos of the Anderson Raiders' collection when it was purchased back in the late 1990's.

Early Super Bowl game used balls are extremely rare, in the hands of only players who scored significant TD's and escorted the ball to the sidelines, or team officials who worked on the sidelines. Ask any Raider like Ken Stabler, Art Shell, Jim Otto, Ken Hendricks, Freddy B., etc., who was the most valuable Raider over time?, and that answer invariably is the man who got them physically able to play through injuries, and who creatively rigged up umpteen enabling "makeshift bandages and casts," trainer George Anderson.
