1959-61 Ray Nitschke Game Worn Green Bay Packers Jersey. Fellow Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Bart Starr once characterized this hard-nosed middle linebacker as the "classic example of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," a gentle giant off the field who conversely took great pleasure in doling out bone-crushing punishment to opposing ball carriers. This classic example of an early-career white Durene gamer from the 1978 Canton inductee convincingly illustrates Nitschke's rough brand of play, nine very sizable team repairs and a few unrepaired holes, indicating hundreds of downs worth of collisions under the rule of legendary coach Vince Lombardi.Amid the constellation of battle scars we find the unforgettable double-sixes in green tackle twill sewn to chest, back and sleeves, these likewise showing brutal wear. Yellow and green sleeve striping recalls some of Nitschke's finest days in Titletown. Consigned by a former team staffer, the jersey can be dated to 1959-61, due to the Rawlings style rounded block numeral font. No tagging is present, as the jersey was cut up high on the tail, as it was most likely used during practices after it was retired from game action. One of the earliest Nitschke gamers ever to hit the auction block, it even displays some blood spots on the front portion of the neck, which originate either from Nitschke, or one of those unlucky ball carriers that he left in his wake.
