Description
1918 Chicago Cubs Team Panoramic Photograph. The single-year uniform style allows us to definitively date this spectacular panoramic photograph to the 1918 season, one which concluded with the club's first National League pennant in eight years. It's the only example we've ever seen of this marvelous relic, and it's all but assured to be the finest of any small supply which might possibly still exist. Two small tears at the upper border, neither longer than one inch, are only apparent upon the closest of inspection, and mark the sole flaws requiring mention. From any reasonable viewing distance the photo presents just as perfectly as the day it was printed. Ironically, we find Fred Merkle among the casually posed players, the very man whose "boner" was responsible for breathing new life into the club during the Cubs' last World Championship season in 1908. He stands beside Hall of Fame pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander, who appears distracted by something or someone in the grandstands. Size is 9x29.5", with the original frame expanding the dimensions by two inches on each side. Third party shipping required.Auction Info
