Description

1999 USA Basketball Tournament of the Americas Team Signed Limited Edition Basketball from The Steve Koonin Collection. Team USA went 10-0, from July 14-25, to take home the gold medal at the 1999 Tournament of the Americas.

Spalding TF-1000 sphere features "USA Basketball" logo and "1999 Men's Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament 67 of 180" stamping. Signed by eighteen, including Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Tim Hardaway, Allan Houston, Richard Hamilton, Steve Smith, Wally Szczerbiak, Tom Gugliotta, Vin Baker, Elton Brand, Larry Brown (head coach), Gene Keady (assistant coach), Tubby Smith (assistant coach), Lenny Currier (trainer), Keith Jones (trainer), and one other.

The ball is NRMT and the vintage black sharpie autographs grade an overall 9/10 in strength. Letter of provenance from Steve Koonin. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.

As Covid 19 closed down the NBA and my office as CEO of the Atlanta Hawks , our home quickly became our office. Since March of last year, I have taken countless Zoom calls and meetings from my home office. Seeing the same four walls day after day, I had an idea for how to give back from a career that has given me so much.

Over the last 30+ year career at both Coca-Cola and Turner Broadcasting, I had the privilege and good fortune to work with dozens of sports teams and star athletes. In these roles, I was often afforded lots of gifts; I received signed sports memorabilia to commemorate the work we did together.

While working from home day after day while our country is ravaged by the pandemic, I decided it's time to turn these past memories into current action and help others. Heritage Auctions is going to be selling items from my collection to raise money for college education. 100% of all dollars raised will be donated to education based charities including the Koonin Scholarship Program at the University of Georgia's Grady College.
