Description

Circa 1965-66 Jerry Armstrong Game Worn Texas Western Miners Warm Up Jacket. Now known as the University of Texas El Paso, the Texas Western Miners 1965-66 squad made history as they were the first team with an all-black starting lineup to win the NCAA men's basketball championship. Portrayed in the book and film "Glory Road," the Miners defeated Kentucky 72-65 in the historic championship game at Cole Field House, and in 2007 the entire team was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The perfect match for the Jerry Armstrong 1966 Texas Western game-worn jersey also featured in our May catalog auction, here we present Jerry Armstrong's warm-up jacket from circa 1965-66. As beautiful as a jersey from the historic squad, it showcases "TEXAS WESTERN" in orange tackle twill across the front, while its collar displays bright orange piping around the perimeter. The back is missing Armstrong's nameplate, as six button snaps are present, and there is no manufacturer tag present (probably was made by "Sand Knit," as they produced the jerseys and trunks for the team). The interior seam is markered "ARMSTRONG", and it exhibits great wear throughout. A magical lot that will be sure to attract heavy attention from roundball enthusiasts with the keen eye for extreme rarity and unmatched aesthetics. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
