Jesse Owens was indelibly placed in the history books after his stupendous performance at the 1936 Olympics in which he took home four gold medals. This feat was accomplished in Berlin, which was then under the control of Hitler's Third Reich. Owens, an African American, was given credit for helping to expose the myths of racial superiority that Hitler extolled.
