Description

1956-57 Warren Godfrey Game Worn Detroit Red Wings Jersey. Of all teams ever included in the National Hockey League, the "Original Six" franchises are unquestionably the most highly collected among serious memorabilia hobbyists. Of those six teams, it would be impossible to pick which one would be considered the most significant in the memorabilia hobby, but one thing is for sure - no serious game-worn jersey collection is complete without the inclusion of a 1950's Detroit Red Wings wool sweater.

Offered here is a high quality Wings jersey worn during the 1956-57 season by Canadian defenseman Warren Godfrey. The exact season of the shirt was pinpointed by Heritage hockey expert Bill Campbell, who notes that 56-57 was the first year that Detroit displayed numbers on the sleeves, and in addition, the "Lippman's" tag in the collar was last used in approximately 1957. The proper team logo patch is presented across the front, while Godfrey's No. 5 is affixed to the verso. Jersey shows considerable wear, but free of the typical holes and tears that one would expect in an example from this era. Just begging to be displayed on a mannequin, this piece has been in private hands for more than 50 years and is now ready to belong to the lucky winning bidder. LOA from Joe Tomon.
