Description
Early 1930's Franklin D. Roosevelt Single Signed Baseball. The Commander in Chief's presence upon an OAL (Harridge) ball almost definitively asserts that the signature was penned during FDR's White House years, as Will Harridge served as president of the American League for only one season prior to Roosevelt's election. While we regret that the story of this particular sphere has been lost to the ages, it's safe to assume that the autograph was acquired at an Opening Day ceremony, or perhaps even at the 1933 World Series, which featured the hometown Washington Senators as a combatant. One will note that the ball features patriotic red and blue stitching, discontinued by the American League after the 1933 season, a fact that further targets the birthdate of this coveted rarity. Just two FDR singles have reached the auction block of major houses in the twenty-first century, providing some sense of just how tough a find this is. The black fountain pen sweet spot signature rates an imperfect yet entirely legible 3/10, though condition issues must be forgiven in light of the enormous scarcity. A special opportunity for the advanced autograph collector. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.Auction Info
