Description

1971 Jim "Catfish" Hunter Game Worn Oakland A's Jersey. Team owner Charlie Finley continued his assault upon the standard mores of Major League Baseball fashion this season, as he allowed pitcher Jim Grant to stitch his nickname "Mudcat" onto his jersey instead of the tradition surname. A few teammates quickly followed suit, with Vida Blue choosing to sport his first name, and Jim Hunter emblazoning his jersey verso with "Catfish." A simple restoration job will return this home yellow vest to its original iconoclastic brilliance, as the shirt was unfortunately stripped of its aquatic moniker for secondary minor league usage. All else remains original and unaltered however, with the "27" and logo "A's" on the chest and the larger number "27" on verso clearly first generation tackle twill. Proper "McAuliffe Uniform Corp" label appears at lower left front tail, with "'71" year and "46" size tags below. Solid wear throughout, but no damage to note. One of the hippest jerseys in the hobby, dating to the first of five consecutive twenty-win seasons for this definitive Mustache Gangster. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
