1981 Michael Jordan NCAA Debut UNC Tar Heels vs. Kansas Jayhawks Full Ticket, PSA Poor 1--Pop One, One Superior. A year ago, in our February 2022 Platinum Night auction, a $468,000 result for the only known full ticket from Michael Jordan's NBA debut sent shockwaves through the collecting community and beyond, that world record result plastered across headlines from Chicago to China. It was one of hundreds of Michael Jordan items to trade hands at six-figure prices since "The Last Dance" documentary greatly expanded the global market for the hardcourt's greatest practitioner, bringing thousands of new collectors into the Heritage Auctions clientele along the way.Presented is a relic that should serve as a rematch of sorts among those high-end Jordan collectors who competed for ownership of that NBA debut full ticket, one of only three known unused tickets from the collegiate debut of Michael Jordan, thus his first appearance on the national stage.
The contest saw the lanky freshman post a dozen points in a 74-67 victory over Kansas, UNC rallying from an early deficit before taking the lead with an 8-0 run midway through the second half from which the Jayhawks were never able to recover. Jordan would play one hundred more games for Hall of Fame coach Dean Smith before his selection as the Bull's first pick in the 1984 NBA draft, an arrival that would herald a protracted era of NBA dominance unseen since the glory days of the 1960's Boston Celtics.
