Description
1932 New York Yankees Partial-Team Signed Baseball with Provenance.UPDATE: The identification of this ball has changed. Text below is accurate.
The final World Championship season for the Babe Ruth, who would punctuate the occasion with his famous "Called Shot" in the third game of the 1932 World Series. He takes appropriate sweet spot honors on this OAL sphere, surrounded by six Bomber teammates, including fellow Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt and Herb Pennock, plus Benny Bengough and George Pipgras. Also signed by Chick Hafey, Wally Roettger, Andy High, Bill Sherdel, Joe Grabowski and Mattie Mathews. There are several signatures which are no longer legible.
The ball has aged to a grayish color and the league stamping has faded. Meanwhile, the ink autographs vary in strength and exhibit different degrees of fading. Babe and Lou are two of the boldest and most legible and grade 4/10-5/10 in strength.
The ball was originally given by Earle Combs to Martin J. Kiegler who was the cook for the Yankees from 1928-32 at the Princess Martha Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida where the team stayed during Spring Training. Mr. Kiegler's letter of provenance attends. Letter of provenance from Martin J. Kiegler. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
