Description
1933 Sport Kings Ty Cobb #1 SGC EX+ 5.5. Topping the great Babe Ruth for the No. 1 spot (the "Sultan of Swat" is card #2), Ty Cobb, the MLB player famously known as the "Georgia Peach," kicks off the 1933 Sport Kings multi-sport set that showcases some of the best athletes from across various disciplines, including boxing (Jack Dempsey), football (Red Grange), golf (Bobby Jones), and even track and field (Babe Didrikson). Cobb, the 12-time American League batting champ and the man who still owns Major League Baseball's highest batting average in history (.366), was the perfect choice to bat leadoff in this collection. The combination of Cobb's star power and his appearance as the No. 1 in the set makes this one of the toughest issues to find in high grade. The offered middle-grade example of card #1 from the '33 Sport Kings series is still a gem. Exhibiting rich bold colors, superb centering, four quality corners and a clean reverse, this specimen would be a solid addition to anyone's vintage card collection. Graded SGC EX+ 5.5. Of the more than 300 examples found in the SGC Pop Report, this is one of five cards graded EXCELLENT+ with 17 rated higher.
