1910 Schmelzer's Sporting Goods Ty Cobb Pin, PSA Good 2. Whitehead & Hoag produced an eight-pin set of 1-1/4" diameter celluloid from which this wonderfully preserved relic derives. The company is well-known to baseball hobbyists for its role in creating some of the earliest World Series press pins and numerous 19th Century promotions. Ty Cobb is a key to the issue, next to Jackson, but but both maintain such an extraordinarily limited population. Whitehead & Hoag's name joins that of Schmelzer's Sporting Goods on the close to perfect paper insert on verso, the latter a Kansas City retail outlet who must have released only a small handful of these commemoratives, as PSA has graded only six.
