Description
1998 Pinnacle Inscriptions Peyton Manning (Autograph) Rookie BGS Gem Mint 9.5, Auto 10 - #'d 1/1! Peyton Manning was struggling with a decision when he was a senior in high school at Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans. And that decision was go to Ole Miss where his father, mother and older brother all went or forge his own path. Manning's father former NFL QB, Archie once said, "I thought the Ole Miss thing was weighing really heavy on him, and he's thinking, 'Alright, if I don't go to Ole Miss, I don't want to play against Ole Miss.'" Archie would go on to say he thought Peyton was going to end up at the University of Michigan, but when their offensive coordinator left for an NFL position, the University of Tennessee and offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe jumped in. Despite the fact that Tennessee plays in the same conference as Ole Miss, Cutcliffe and the Volunteers staff convinced Manning to head to Knoxville, because they are on the other side of the conference from Ole Miss.At Rocky Top Manning would indeed make his own legacy; he would win 39 of 45 games as a starter, which broke an SEC record for career wins and became Tennessee's all-time leading passer with 11,201 yards. Although he didn't come in as the instant starter, after two injuries to the starter and then back-up (Todd Helton), Manning would take the reigns and never relinquish them from there. During his senior season Peyton would be named a consensus 1st Team All-American, win the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finished as runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. Our offered card brings back the time Manning spent at the University of Tennessee, with him displayed in his home uniform along with a black marker on-card signature. This rookie card comes from 1998 Pinnacle Inscriptions. Graded BGS Gem Mint 9.5 with subgrades: Centering 9.5, Corners 9.5, Edges 9.5, Surface 9 with a Beckett Auto 10. Limited edition - #1/1!
