Description

2005 Chicago White Sox Game Worn, Signed Catcher's Mask. Following the Black Sox scandal of 1919, the White Sox made only one World Series appearance before 2005. Baseball prognosticators didn't expect much out of the pale hose before the 2005 season. But things came together at the right time as the White Sox swept through the World Series and win their first Fall Classic since 1917. Worn that magical season is this hockey goalie style catcher's mask. We are unable to attribute the use to a single player as no numbers are shown. Numerous scratches and contact marks appear on the plastic shell and decals. We did find photos from '05 of catcher Chris Widger wearing a similar style of mask although his does have a number decal on back, which this doesn't. "World Series 05" is written on the sides in black ink. The following players signed this offering: Hickey, Guillen, Iguchi, Konerko, Hernandez, Politte, Buehrle, Raines, Contreras, Dye, Jenks (smeared) and many more. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
