1992 Barcelona Olympics USA Basketball "Dream Team" First Ever Signed Basketball (Olympic Number Inscriptions, Peter Vescey Collection).Featured in this lot is quite possibly the first ever multi-signed basketball by the iconic 1992 Olympic "Dream Team". It is also the only piece we have ever seen where all players inscribed their Olympic numbers as part of their signatures (i.e. Michael Jordan #9). It's well known that many players from this era, most notably Michael Jordan, do not inscribe their jersey number as part of their signature.
It would take someone with especially inside access to have a request like this granted. Insert Peter Vescey, long time NBA columnist and fixture on the NBA on NBC broadcasts throughout the 1990s. Recognizing this would quite possibly be the greatest team ever assembled in the history of sports, Vescey began a pursuit to personally collect each participant's signature and acquire the first ever "Dream Team" signed basketball. Magic and Bird were the first to sign and did so during the 1991 preseason. Vescey referenced the ball in his June 15, 2012 NY Post article:
As a matter of fact, I got Magic and Larry Bird to sign two basketballs before a Lakers-Celtics exhibition in Worcester, Mass. I asked Magic also to write "1992 Olympic Champions" on them. He hesitated a couple seconds before seeking help.
"Hey, Larry, how to you spell 'Champions?" Magic asked.

Vescey continued his pursuit throughout the 1991-92 season as team members were announced. He eventually completed the piece acquiring a total of fourteen signatures of all professional team members and coaches and even NBA commissioner David Stern.
