1996 Tony Hawk X-Games II Competition Used & Signed Skateboard Deck -- Photo Matched! At the 1996 X Games in Newport, Rhode Island--just the second annual edition of the competition--Tony Hawk delivered one of the most memorable performances of his storied career. Already established as a dominant force in vert skating, Hawk brought both technical mastery and showmanship to the event. He competed in multiple disciplines, including the Vert Best Trick competition, where he consistently pushed the boundaries of what was possible on a skateboard. However, the highlight of the event came during a demonstration rather than a judged run.

In a now-iconic moment, Hawk performed a high-speed ollie off the end of the vert ramp, soaring through the air and landing in the harbor waters below. The stunt wasn't part of the official competition but showcased Hawk's flair for the dramatic and his willingness to take risks for the sake of spectacle. It captured the spirit of the X Games at the time-unpredictable, daring, and driven by a new generation of extreme athletes. Hawk's ollie into the water remains a legendary moment in X Games history and solidified his place as a pioneer who helped bring skateboarding into the mainstream.
