1928 Army vs. Notre Dame "Win one for the Gipper" Full Ticket, PSA EX 5 (MK). The "Win one for the Gipper" speech, delivered by Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne at halftime of the 1928 Army game on November 10, 1928, stands as one of the most emotionally compelling moments in American sports history. The story centers around George Gipp, Notre Dame's star halfback who tragically died of pneumonia in 1920 at just twenty-five years old. According to Rockne, during Gipp's final days, he urged Rockne to someday tell the team about him in a moment of dire need, saying, "Someday, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper."

Rockne recounted this to his players during halftime at Yankee Stadium with Notre Dame trailing Army. The story had a powerful emotional impact on the team, inspiring them to rally and ultimately defeat Army 12-6. Though historians debate the precise authenticity of Gipp's dying words, Rockne's use of the anecdote was undeniably effective. It became a foundational myth of Notre Dame football, symbolizing loyalty, sacrifice, and inspiration. The phrase "Win one for the Gipper" entered the American lexicon, famously echoed decades later by Ronald Reagan, who had portrayed Gipp in the 1940 film Knute Rockne, All American.

Presented is the one and only known full ticket for this legendary gridiron contest waged on the same ground where Babe Ruth had recently claimed back-to-back World Championships for the New York Yankees. The ticket is remarkably well-preserved, with just minimal wear at the corners and some handwritten text in the border below the seat number that has been expertly erased and is only apparent under magnification, accounting for the "MK" qualifier. Encapsulated by PSA, EX 5 (MK).
