Description
1871 Mort Rogers Photographic Score Card Calvin McVey - Member of Three Debut Teams. Offered is Cal McVey of the Boston Red Stockings, card #4. McVey's career dates to an era of significant growth and the organization of American baseball. McVey was a member of the first professional team - the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first-year National Association Boston Red Stockings in 1871 and the first-year National League Chicago White Stockings in 1876. He holds the distinction of being the first professional player born in Iowa. Calvin was signed by Harry Wright when he was just 18-years old and needed his father to sign for him as a minor he was considered too young to sign a legal agreement. When McVey retired at the ripe old age of 29, the very talented batsmen held a lifetime .346 BA on 869 hits. We are unaware of any other collectible on which he appears individually. This rare relic shows almost no wear surviving in an overall excellent-mint state. There is only one other known example of McVey. That example has his name and "48" written by hand. Here, his name and number are printed.Auction Info
