Description

Incredible jersey from the ABA's final season!

1975-76 Maurice Lucas Game Worn Kentucky Colonels (ABA) Jersey, MEARS A10. It has often been said that the term "enforcer" in basketball was first used to describe Maurice Lucas. While that is debatable, what isn't is that he was one of the toughest and most talented players to ever play the four-spot.

Luke led Marquette to the 1974 NCAA title game and the number "20" has since been retired by the Golden Eagles. In 1977, he teamed with Big Red to lead The Walton Gang to Portland's first and only NBA title. The turning point in that series may very well have been Lucas's fist fight with Philadelphia's man-child, Darryl Dawkins. In between college and the NBA, Luke played two years in the American Basketball Association, where he put up numbers that were good enough to earn him a place on that league's All-Time Team.

The jersey on offer here dates from his final ABA campaign when he posted 17.0 points and 11.3 boards for the Spirits and Colonels. Home white knit sports "Colonels 25" on the front and "Lucas 25" on the verso, all sewn-on in red/blue tackle twill. Red/blue trim adorns the collar, arm yokes and side panels, with three-inch tail vents and Rawlings tagging in the tail denoting size and extra length. Solid wear from the thirty-five home games in which Lucas starred for Kentucky.

It should be noted the rarity of this jersey as Lucas only played two ABA seasons. This is only the second ABA jersey of his we have ever offered with the other one being the 1974-75 Spirits of St. Louis jersey that realized $55,200 in Heritage's 2021 Winter Platinum Auction. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
