2003 Mariano Rivera Game Worn & Signed Fielder's Glove Used for
40th and Final Save of Season with Rivera Letter. The Sandman
put the Baltimore Orioles and the 2003 regular season to sleep on a
September 28th Bronx afternoon, elevating the Bombers to a
magnificent 101-61 record en route to the 39th American League
Championship in franchise history. Mo would fan two of the four
batters he'd face in the top of the ninth, with a fly ball out and
a ground ball single representing the others. The save would prove
to be Rivera's 283rd of an eventual Major League record 652. He'd
finish the 2003 season with a 1.66 ERA, his third-best of his
nineteen years on the mound.As any serious collector of New York Yankees game used gear is aware, Steiner Sports is the official purveyor of modern material, and this glove is accompanied by a letter of provenance on Steiner letterhead signed by the first and only unanimously-elected Hall of Famer. The navy blue leather "Nike PPRO GOLD MO 42" gamer features Rivera's name and fabled number "42" embroidered in white on thumb and wrist respectively. Game wear is clearly evident at interior pocket.
Back of index finger is boldly autographed by the Panamanian legend, with a light degree of wear to the first name that most won't even notice. Rivera personally identifies the significance of the glove just below, writing, "Game used 2003 Save #40." A Steiner holographic sticker is affixed nearby.
