NBA MVP season!

1981 Julius Erving All-Star Game Worn & Signed Eastern Conference Uniform--Photo Matched & Player Letter. He was the ABA, he revitalized the NBA and his combination of showmanship and class elevated Julius Erving to the position of ambassador of both leagues. While he was not the first player to "linger" in the air and did not invent the slam dunk, Dr. J revolutionized both art forms and was the first basketball player to consistently play above the rim on a nightly basis. His ability to dunk over much larger players in traffic and in half-court sets produced a catalog of aerial milestones which are just as impressive today as they were when they were authored a half a century ago and include:

The free throw line dunk at the 1976 Slam Dunk Contest which made him the defacto "Godfather of the Slam Dunk." The famed 1970's Converse poster, where his biceps are bulging, which introduced us to hangtime. The monster slams over 7-1 Bill Walton in 1977 and 7-5 Mark Eaton in 1985 which inspired a new addition to the lexicon on hardwood slang--"posterized." And perhaps most memorable of all was the palm-off-the-dribble and cuff dunk over defensive genius Michael Cooper in 1983.

In additional to his basketball showmanship, Erving was also endowed with elite basketball skills which earned him multiple titles and MVPs in both leagues and which a made him a perennial All-Star for all sixteen seasons of his professional career. Erving flourished in the All-Star Game and was named its MVP in 1977 and 1983.

Presented here is Dr J's 1981 NBA All-Star Game uniform from the same season during was the league's Most Valuable Player. The white mesh jersey sports all screened-on identifiers, except for "Erving" which is sewn-on the verso in blue tackle twill. The tail reveals a "Medalist/Sand-Knit 42" label and a "3" LB" swatch. Meanwhile, the matching shorts feature the league's thirty-fifth anniversary patch, plus a "Medalist/Sand-Knit 34" label in the waist with "6" in black laundry marker. Furthermore, both pieces are signed "Julius 'Dr. J' Erving in 9/10 black sharpie. A killer display ensemble worthy of Springfield.

The uniform is accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Dr. J, a photo matching LOA (apparent match) and an LOA from MEARS which awards the uniform an A10, its highest grade. Letter of provenance from Julius Erving. Photo matching LOA from Sports Investors Authentication. LOA from MEARS, A10. LOA from James Spence Authentication (jersey & shorts). Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
