Description

1910 Jack Johnson vs. Jim Jeffries Heavyweight Championship Advertising Ticket. Exceedingly rare poster announces one of the most noteworthy matches in boxing history, as slumbering giant James Jeffries came out of retirement to face the Heavyweight Champ Jack Johnson, who had assumed the title with his 1908 victory over Tommy Burns at Sydney, Australia. Billed as both "The Fight of the Century" and "The Incomparable Prize Fight," the July 4 1910 bout remains one of the most significant events in sports history from a sociological standpoint.

The presented "advertising ticket" to the bout is the first we have ever offered at Heritage Auctions, which speaks volumes as to its rarity. The 2.75x8.5" relic pictures "Paddy Flaherty, Mayor of the Bowery" on the front and vintage writing on the back noting the date of the fight. Exhibits four small pinholes, minor wear and presents well.
