Description

1970 Luxor Clock Presented to Al Kaline by A.L. President Joe Cronin on Al Kaline Day from The Al Kaline Collection. Al Kaline Day in 1970, which came in on the heels of Mickey Mantle Day a year earlier, was the first commemoration for an active Tigers player since The Mechanical Man was so honored in 1940. At one point during the ceremony, Kaline was so overcome with emotion that he broke down in tears of joy.

One of the many gifts Mr. Tiger received that day was the weighty mantle/desk clock presented here. The silver metal case displays the following heartfelt inscription at the top:

"To Al Kaline. A Ball Player's Ball Player. August 2, 1970. Joseph E. Cronin, President of the American League."

Meanwhile, "Luxor Shreve Crump & Low Co" appears on the clock face with "Luxor S.A. Swiss. 142-5. 1666" engraved at the base. Measures to the dimensions of 7.5x7x3.5", weighs eight pounds (8 lbs.), and remains in fine working condition. Accompanied by an original 8x10" color photograph of Cronin presenting the clock to Kaline. Letter of provenance from Mark Kaline.
