Description

1970 Le Coultre Clock Presented to Al Kaline by His Teammates on Al Kaline Day from The Al Kaline Collection. Al Kaline Day in 1970, which came on the heels of Mickey Mantle Day a year earlier, was the first commemoration for an active Tigers player since The Mechanical Man was so honored in 1940. At one point during the ceremony, Kaline was so overcome with emotion that he broke down in tears of joy.

One of the many gifts Mr. Tiger received that day was the weighty mantle/desk clock presented here. The gold metal case displays the following inscription at the base:

"In Appreciation. Al Kaline Day. August 2, 1970."

The base also contains the names of thirty-one of his teammates, including Lolich, McLain, Cash, Freehan, McAuliffe, Horton, Northrup, Stanley, Niekro, Hiller, manager Mayo Smith, and travelling secretary Charlie Creedon.

Meanwhile, the clock face and mechanism display "Le Coultre. Swiss. Fifteen 15 Jewels VXN. Switzerland Unadjusted. Le Coultre & Cie. Atmos." Also, the base is stamped with "Le Coultre & Cie. Metal Caliber 528-8. Swiss."

Measures to the dimensions of 9x8.25x6.25", weighs ten pounds (10 lbs.), and remains in fine working condition. Accompanied by an original 8x10" color photograph of Creedon presenting the clock to Kaline. A most impressive timepiece to say the least. Letter of provenance from Mark Kaline.
