Description

1888-89 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Roger Connor (#88-2) SGC 80 EX/NM 6. Any N173 Old Judge cabinet card is rare and treasured addition to any collection and an opportunity not to be missed. While a traditional Old Judge insert card must have been an enticing inducement to use tobacco, these premium cards are a far more impressive as who wouldn't be in awe of a grand size portrait of a favored subject.

Roger Connor is a highly regarded Hall of Famer from the 19th Century. Connor occupied first base and served as the team's greatest offensive threat, leading the 1887 New York team in every power category: doubles (26), triples (22), home runs (17) and runs batted in (104). It was Connor's career home run record that Ruth would surpass in 1920, though the nineteenth century long ball artist was practically forgotten about after his retirement. He was buried in an unmarked grave in 1931. Highly respected now, his entry is among the most desirable.

Graded SGC 80 EX/NM 6. This is the finest example on record with SGC from a precious total pop of just six. His portrait is pose #88-2 "Catch, hands waist high." His name, position and team are in script lettering directly in the image. The image is excellent, with fine detail and a full range of values. some extremely mild spot staining on the reverse and some modest corner wear is evident and has completely failed to impact visual appeal and enjoyment. A stellar example of a highly rated Hall of Famer.
