Description
1972 Muhammad Ali Training Worn Trunks. Before he could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, Muhammad Ali needed to put in the proper gym time. The speed bag, sparring sessions and hitting that heavy bag were all part of the formula of success for boxing's main attraction. These "Everlast" boxing trunks were used by Ali when he was getting ready for matches in 1972. The year was busy as he won all six of his matches, most notably against Floyd Patterson. These trunks have the familiar white satin body with black waist trim and side striping. Letters of provenance from Daria Muhammad, daughter of Ali's trainer Wali Muhammad, and Craig Hamilton attend. Hamilton purchased the trunks from Wali Muhammad's family in April of 2012. "Ali 72" is written inside by Wali Muhammad according to Hamilton's letter of provenance. "Ali" also appears on the front in black marker for identification. A tear appears on the lower rear, right leg as well. Great wear visible throughout especially on the backside. Letter of provenance from family of assistant trainer Wali Muhammad. LOA from Craig Hamilton/JO Sports. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
