Description

1985 Buffalo Bills Game Worn Helmet. The 1985 Buffalo Bills endured a difficult season, finishing with a 2-14 record, tied for the worst in the NFL that year. Coached by Kay Stephenson for the first four games and then Hank Bullough for the remainder, the team struggled on both sides of the ball, ranking near the bottom of the league in offense and defense. Quarterback play was inconsistent, with Vince Ferragamo and Bruce Mathison both seeing time under center, but neither providing a spark.

Despite the dismal season, 1985 marked a turning point in the franchise's history as it was the rookie year of Bruce Smith, the future Hall of Fame defensive end and cornerstone of the Bills' dominant defenses in the coming decade. The team's poor performance ultimately positioned them to draft high in 1986, setting the stage for a turnaround under head coach Marv Levy and quarterback Jim Kelly, who would arrive shortly after and help lead the Bills into their golden era.

Offered is a size-7 1/4 Buffalo Bills helmet game worn during that season. Identifying decals have been removed, but use wear is apparent throughout the shell, including sweat stains on the interior and chipping, indentions, dirt remnants and scrapes on the exterior. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
