Description
1930s & 1940s Store Model Baseball Gloves, Lot of 5. The evolution of baseball gloves began in the 1870s, when players first used rudimentary leather gloves to protect their hands, often fingerless and lightly padded. By the 1890s, gloves began to include more padding and webbing between the thumb and forefinger for better catching ability. In the early 20th century, gloves became more specialized by position-catcher's mitts were heavily padded, while first baseman's mitts had a wider shape.By the 1950s-60s, innovations like deeper pockets, hinged webs, and laced fingers made gloves more functional and durable. Modern gloves are highly specialized by position, made from advanced leather, and often tailored to player preferences. Today's gloves offer a blend of tradition, technology, and craftsmanship, dramatically improving fielding performance compared to their early counterparts.
Offered are five vintage baseball gloves (two catcher models, two first base models, and infield model). Pro ball players models represented include Bill Dickey, Johnny Mize, Stan Hack, and Eddie Phillips. Mild to moderate wear.
