1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 350/30 Christy Mathewson (Dark Cap) SGC VG 3. Offered is a highly prized card of one of the inaugural five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Matty, was a handsome matinee idol (really, he acted in Vaudeville), the author of the book "Pitching in a Pinch," and the college educated gentleman who was a supreme competitor. Matty was not enamored with defeat. As he noted, "Travelling with a tail-end ball club is the poorest pastime in the world. I would rather ride in the first coach of a funeral procession." Known as 'The Big Six", for a famed two-story tall powerful fire engine in New York City, Mathewson used that power to set modern National League records for wins in a season (37), career wins (373) and consecutive seasons winning 20 games (12). Mathewson pitched 17 seasons, all with the New York Giants except a single game at the end of his career with Cincinnati. Brilliant collectors grade example that has been graded SGC VG 3.
