Description

1824 Printed Account of Dick Hill vs. Jem Mappin Bout. Rare broadside print with fabulous woodcut engraving above the title line is recognized as one of the earliest surviving fight reports extant. The fascinating account provides a round-by-round assessment of the match which ends, as was quite often the case in early pugilistic battles, with a controversial decision. The broadside measures 7.5x17" in size with mild edge wear and a couple small tape repairs along upper border, but it still presents wonderfully and should be considered a miracle of survival when considering its large dimensions and the delicate paper stock of its construction.
