Description
2001-02 Igor Larionov Game Worn Jersey. By the time he first stepped onto NHL ice at the age of 29, Igor Larianov was already regarded as one of the world's finest. He dominated in Russia in the years leading up to that, earning player of the year honors in 1988. A crafty center who was hailed as one of the best passers of all time, Larionov enjoyed much of his NHL success while a member of the Detroit Red Wings, helping bring the Stanley Cup to Hockeytown in 1997, 1998 and 2002. Along with Glenn Anderson, whose jersey we also present in this sale, Larionov is one of two players who will enter the Hockey Hall of Fame during the induction in November.Dating from the Stanley Cup 2001-02 season, this tremendous white airknit jersey shows tons of wear, a testament to the scrappy style of play. At the onset that season, the Red Wings drew criticism for having too many players near the end of their career and Larionov was then the oldest player in the NHL. But the Red Wings tore through the league, securing yet another championship and silencing the critics. A myriad of stick and puck marks pepper the jersey front in the area beneath the crest. Each sleeve is also marked up, with some fabulous and extensive team repairs executed to the lower portion of both. The beautiful winged wheel logo dominates the front of the shirt, while the verso has "LARIONOV" sewn directly to the jersey, vertically-arched above the red tackle twill "8". A placard in the tail comes from Red Wings equipment manager Paul Boyer reading "2001-20002 Authentic Game Jersey 1st Set". Interior button velcro fight strap remains intact and shows light signs of oxidation. Fantastic Hall of Fame shirt with some of the finest modern game use we've seen. LOA from Mei-Gray/Hockeytown.
