Description

1957-63 Heavyweight Boxing Scrapbook with Ali, Marciano Autographs. Weighty volume was painstakingly compiled by a serious fight fan, who neatly arranged newspaper clippings detailing six years of Heavyweight action. The highlight of the scrapbook, however, derives from his attendance of the September 25, 1962 meeting of Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston. Just after an artful presentation of the full program and ticket stub from the fight are stapled a thin stack of looseleaf pages adorned with autographs from the fight's most noteworthy attendees. Best is the offering from the youngster who would assure that Liston's newly won Championship belt would not be worn for long. He signs, "To George from Cassius Clay, Good Luck 1962, 4 rounds." There is little doubt but that the young Muhammad Ali was referring to his upcoming November meeting with Archie Moore, for which he predicted, ''When you come to the fight/ Don't block the aisle/ Don't block the door/ Because Moore will fall in four.'' The fight would indeed end with Clay's technical knockout of Moore in the fourth round. One must wonder if Moore himself, whose autograph appears on the preceding page, was present for Clay's taunting inscription. Other autographs, each on its own page as are Clay's and Moore's, are Rocky Marciano, Joe Louis, Barney Ross and Willie Pep. Each presents in perfect 10/10 condition. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.

Guide Value or Estimate: $1,200 - $1,500.
