Description

1949 Charles "Kid" Nichols' Personal Induction Scrapbook with Signed Pieces (2). It may have been a long time coming--over forty years after he threw his last pitch--but "Kid" still had the youthful enthusiasm of one when the call came from Cooperstown. Here we present his personal scrapbook filled with photos, newspaper clippings and letters of congratulations all related to his induction into baseball's most revered institution. Among the highlights are one-of-a-kind personal snapshots from the induction ceremonies, a 1949 Souvenir of Kid Nichols Day card signed on verso with the words "This is the kodak picture of sketch made of 'Kid' Nichols in 1948," and a somewhat political incorrect notation upon an envelope reading "Jap who sent the painting he made after 'Kid' Nichols had been in correspondence with him." Many newspaper clippings have brief notations (no autographs) in Nichols' hand as well. Far too much is contained within the dozens of pages to properly itemize in this auction copy, so we invite interested bidders to attend lot viewing to review in person. A rare glimpse into the life of a 19th century superstar. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
