Description

1909-11 T206 Christy Mathewson, Dark Cap SGC 70 EX+ 5.5. "The Christian Gentleman," Christy Mathewson was a college man who wrote a series of children's books. Mathewson was an upstanding role model at a time when most ballplayers were thought to be hard-living and hard-drinking from the unpolished margins of society. One of the greats to ever grace the mound, Mathewson captured the NL's pitching Triple Crown in 1905 and again in 1908 - leading the circuit in wins, strikeouts and earned run average. The card itself suffers from light touches of wear at the corners, but is still a more than respectable representation for the Hall of Fame pitcher from the induction class of 1936.
