Description
1976 New York Yankees American League Championship Ring Presented to Otto Velez. They called him "Otto the Swatto," a commentary on his occasional bursts of home run power. In one doubleheader in 1980, Velez put four balls into the cheap seats, creating a new kind of "cycle" with a solo shot, a two-run, three-run and grand slam blast. The hardware presented here dates to four seasons earlier as the Puerto Rican slugger helped guide the Yankees back to the American League Championship after a twelve-year drought. Real diamonds create a team logo "NY" in a blue stone on the face, encircled by raised text announcing, "Yankees American League Champions." Left shank features the classic bat and hat logo with the words "Velez" and "Pride." Right shank features the Stadium in miniature with the year and the word "Tradition." Interior band is stamped "Balfour 10K" and measures to a size ten and a half (10.5). Only minor wear evident.Auction Info
