Description

1951-54 New York Giants and "Shot Heard 'Round the World" Newspapers Lot of 2. Offered here are two separate editions from New York's Daily Mirror which focus on that city's New York Giants of the '50s. From 1951 we offer the report the day after Bobby Thomson smacked the "Shot Heard 'Round the World," perhaps the most famous homer in baseball history. In what was the most exciting manner a pennant race has ever been decided, Thomson's three-run dinger in the 9th gave the Giants a 5-4 win to decide a three-game playoff with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Also, we have the 1954 edition which chronicled the Giants' Game Two win over the Cleveland Indians in that year's World Series. The Indians, who won an AL-record 111 games that year, were unceremoniously swept by the Giants during that particular Fall Classic. Both examples show the expected yellowing to be expected from newsprint of this age, and minor tears along the edges and fold lines seem to be the only notable detractions from condition.
