Description

1936 Young Bussey Signed High School Yearbook - Chicago Bears Player Who Died in WWII. While playing quarterback for the Chicago Bears the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed, Young Bussey soon decided to leave the NFL and joined the Navy in 1942. He attained the rank of lieutenant and in 1944 was assigned to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation. Despite his premonition that we would not survive the campaign, Young took part in the invasion. During the battle, the former NFLer received a number of commendations for courageous conduct, but his craft was later hit by a Japanese shell and his body was never recovered.

Offered here is an extremely rare original '36 yearbook from San Jacinto High School High School, and it is signed by American hero Young Bussey. Showcasing 8/10 black ink by the 1941 NFL champion next to his high school football photograph, the publication exhibits moderate wear, while its binding has become partially loose. Also included are several news clippings regarding his high school football career from the mid 30's. Right up there with autographs of Kinnick, Tillman and other war heroes, it is a perfect piece featuring the gone but not forgotten gridiron great. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
