Description

1958 Gil Hodges Game Used Fielder's Glove. A single-year style for this "Wilson A2801" first baseman's mitt allows us to definitively peg the historic leather to the enormously important 1958 Dodgers season, the first in Los Angeles. It exhibits light to moderate use from one of the club's most beloved players, and long a dark horse candidate for Cooperstown enshrinement. Hodges posted a stupendous .992 fielding average at first base the season the club replaced the letter "B" on their caps with "LA," indicating that the glove worked quite well for the veteran Dodger. The glove is consigned to Heritage by the son of a prominent Los Angeles doctor who became close with a number of his new neighbors, and a 9/10 inscription, "To Johnny, Best Wishes, Gil Hodges," makes a gift of the glove to the young boy. The glove was consigned with the 1958 Dodgers signed mini bat also presented within this auction. LOA from Joe Phillips. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (autograph). Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
