Description

1973 Secretariat Race Worn Marlboro Cup Horseshoe Nail with Provenance. In 1999, The Blood-Horse magazine rated the top 100 racehorses of the twentieth century, assigning Man O' War and Secretariat the number one and two positions respectively.

Adding to the enormous appeal of this nail and bit is the ultimate Secretariat vintage of 1973, the year that the most celebrated four-legged athlete of the past half century cruised to victory in all three legs of the iconic Triple Crown. The nail was pulled from the horseshoe worn by Secretariat at the 1973 Marlboro Cup at Belmont. A wonderful 17.5x22" display holds this offering. A detailed story of how this was obtained by Buck Peters, the official photographer for Phillip Morris, is captured on the reverse. Letter of provenance from Leonard Lusky (copy).
