Description
1913 New York Giants & Chicago White Sox Panoramic Photographs Lot of 2. Incredible display pairs two panoramic photographs (each 6x43" in size) capturing the scene at the baseball grounds of Oxnard, California as the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox faced off on November 11, 1913. Baseball historians will recognize this barnstorming expedition as the "Tour to End All Tours" during which the two clubs visited thirteen countries just prior to the start of the first World War. Best is the photo matted at top, picturing each team standing shoulder to shoulder in front of a grandstand packed with spectators. We can spot Christy Mathewson, John McGraw, Hal Chase, Tris Speaker, Wahoo Sam Crawford and Buck Weaver in uniform, and Frank Chance in civilian gear in center. The lower image is a full vista of the field of action, with Mathewson ducking beneath the third baseman's throw to first. Each photo exhibits several vertical creases from the photos having been rolled then crushed, but each still presents quite nicely and, considering the tremendous rarity, such faults must be forgiven. Photos are matted and framed to 19x50". Third party shipping required.Auction Info
