Description
1930 Eddie Collins Game Used Bat. The inaugural class Hall of Famer was the youngest player in the American League (age nineteen) upon his debut in 1906, and the second oldest (age forty-three) during his final season of 1930. In those twenty-five years of action, Collins earned himself 3,315 hits, a lifetime .333 average, and baseball immortality. A favorite of the legendary manager Connie Mack, Collins was the only player in uniform for both the first (1910-14) and second (1929-30) great Philadelphia Athletics dynasties. He was putting the last touches on his stats when this Batrite Georgia Driver TA 80 6 saw action in the final season of his career, and the exceptional use bears witness to this fact. Scattered ball marks are clearly evident three quarters of a century later, and minor grain separation has resulted from the punishment of horsehide on wood. Note that the "TA" designation indicates professional model, the "80" assigned to Collins, and the "6" denoting the length in inches (36). Bat exhibits heavy use with a professional handle repair. Knob end is stamped "Patented July 15, 1930," just two weeks before Collins' final game.Auction Info
